May 28, 2018, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery and Lejeune Memorial Gardens
Memorial Day kicks off the summer—and it is also a sacred time to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. On your way to or from the coast, visit Jacksonville NC (between Wilmington and New Bern) for a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 28 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. MGen Robert Dickerson (Ret) will be the guest speaker. The ceremony is hosted by the Beirut Memorial Chapter 642 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Following the ceremony, guests are encouraged to continue their reflection and remembrance with a self-guided tour of the Lejeune Memorial Gardens, just across the street from the ceremony. Guests can visit the second largest Vietnam Memorial in the country, the Beirut Memorial, the 9/11 Memorial Beam, the Montford Point Marine Memorial, and the largest Eagle, Globe & Anchor sculpture in the USA. An informational sheet for a self-guided tour can be found at visitjacksonvillenc.com/153/Military-Heritage
